Du 15 juin au 31 décembre 2013, la Cité internationale de la dentelle et de la mode de Calais consacre sa prochaine exposition à Iris van Herpen.
A seulement 29 ans, la jeune styliste néerlandaise a déjà marqué les esprits et les podiums avec des créations futuristes proches de la sculpture. En présentant une trentaine de pièces réalisées entre 2008 et 2012, la Cité internationale de la dentelle et de la mode invite le visiteur à se plonger dans l’univers avant-gardiste de cette jeune surdouée de la mode !
Iris van Herpen, jeune créatrice néerlandaise, s’impose avec force dans le monde de la Haute-Couture. Dans le sillage des Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan et Rei Kawakubo, ses robes sculpturales et innovantes participent pleinement à la vitalité d’une mode conceptuelle qui interroge le processus créatif, l’interaction entre le vêtement et l’individu qui le porte.
Après une formation à l’ArtEZ Institute of the Arts d’Arnhem (Pays-Bas) et un passage chez Alexander McQueen, Iris van Herpen installe sa démarche très personnelle de créatrice, mariant savoir-faire traditionnels et recherches technologiques novatrices. Invitée à défiler sur la scène parisienne depuis juillet 2011 par la prestigieuse Chambre syndicale de la Haute-Couture, Iris van Herpen crée des vêtements à la beauté subtile, poétique et déroutante. Leurs formes sculpturales, enrichies de jeux de miroitements, de volumes à effets prononcés, les classent à mi-chemin entre Haute-Couture et art contemporain. Pour autant, l’objectif de la créatrice semble bien de participer à l’élaboration d’une mode qui sera portée par le plus grand nombre, d’une mode qui se nourrira des aspirations des individus qui la portent.
L’exposition « Iris van Herpen » a été organisée par le Groninger Museum de Groningen (Pays-Bas). A Calais, elle constitue l’une des principales actions du projet européen CRYSALIS dédié à l’innovation textile. A ce titre, elle est soutenue par l’Union européenne par le biais du Fonds européen de coopération transfrontalière Interreg IVa 2 mers.
From 15th June to 31st december 2013, the International City of Lace and Fashion in Calais will be devoting its next exhibition to Iris van Herpen.
At just 29 years of age, this young Dutch stylist has already made an impression on minds and podiums with futuristic creations akin to sculpture. By exhibiting some thirty pieces made between 2008 and 2012, the International City of Lace and Fashion invites visitors to venture into the avant-garde world of this ultra-talented young fashion designer!
Iris van Herpen, a young Dutch creator, has well and truly burst upon the scene of Haute-Couture. In the wake of Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan and Rei Kawakubo, her sculptural, innovative dresses play a full part in the vitality of a conceptual style that questions the creative process and the interaction between the garment and the person who wears it.
After studying at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem (Netherlands) and under Alexander McQueen, Iris van Herpen set up her highly personal creative approach which blends traditional know-how with innovative technological research. Invited to the Parisian cat walks since July 2011 by the prestigious Chambre syndicale de la Haute-Couture, Iris van Herpen creates subtly beautiful, poetic and disorientating clothing. Its sculptural forms, enriched with shimmering and volumes with pronounced effects, places it halfway between Haute-Couture and contemporary art. For all that, van Herpen’s objective dose indeed seem to be design fashion that will be worn by as many people as possible, inspired by their very aspirations.
The exhibition ‘Iris van Herpen’ was organized by the Groninger Museum in Groningen, Netherlands. Its run in Calais is one of the flagship events of the CRYSALIS project, an EU programme dedicated to textile innovation. As such, the exhibition will receive financial support from the European Union via the Interreg IVa 2 Seas European Fund for Cross-Border Cooperation.
